How to read a solar return chart

Hi, guys.

I haven't written in a week or two, or so, ( or whatever ), but I've been playing around with solar return charts lately. A solar return is when the sun goes into the very degrees that the sun was in when you were born. Therefore, when you read a solar return chart it takes place from birthday to birthday.

A mistake I made when I first began looking at solar return charts is when I thought it lasted one calandar year and I was reading mine wrong. Sometimes it would not make sense. At any rate, it just goes from birthday to birthday.

A solar return is how life basically is for the given birthday year. It shows trends. You can look for new relationships, marriage, babies, new jobs, school crap, and everything. But remember: it shows trends. You can have Pluto in the 5H and not get preggo. Just sayin.' But you might become more serious with your creative projects, or get into an intense dating style. But yeah Pluto in the 5H is said to indicate pregnancy, but also keep in mind too you can get pregnant without Pluto being there as well.

When looking at the solar return, LOOK for:

- The sun's house placement. That is probably the most important part of the solar return. It will show the most basic trend in the year. For example: If your sun falls into the 3H, communication will be key that year, but also you could have more car troubles. If your sun falls into the 9H, you could start college/university, or you see your studies as taking up more time than usual. Or you could just travel the globe.

- The Solar Return Asc and where its ruler is located. For example: Your Solar Return Asc could be in Leo and the sun could be in the 5H. 5H matters are key for that year. If you're a Pisces asc natally, you might find yourself more dramatic, cheerful, or generous in the coming year.

- The solar return moon shows a trend in your emotions for the year. House placement is key and shows what area of life this manifests in.

- Venus indicates your love life and money in the coming year.

An example of my Solar Return chart for current:

Uranus is in the 9H. In the past year, I have changed universities. It is aspecting Moon in the 2H, showing I probably have some sort of emotional self worth stemming from higher education. I also got money from higher education too.

Four planets in the fifth house. This year, I have taken more risks with my heart and unfortunately continue to do so. Note that my chart ruler is also in the 5H, since my Solar return Asc is Leo. ( I went on a date last Thursday, too, and dating rules the 5H. )

I got Venus aspecting Neptune/7H. Right now I am in a situation with a guy, where I WANT to consider him a friend, but I can't. Because he's more than a friend to me. So I don't know how to define our "relationship." We're not boyfriend and girlfriend, but not friends. But we want to be more than friends. Aspecting Venus may show a creative side to us; we do talk about creativity and I think he and I sometimes see the world through rose colored glasses.

Putting things into perspective: Venus-Saturn

After my heart felt blog a couple days ago, I had a heart-to-heart with my best friend ( BFF ). We have been friends since August of 1999 when we were two awkward little kids in the elementary school lunch line. So we have built trust and I take her words for wisdom and guidance.

My best friend has a Venus-Saturn conjunction ( in Capricorn ). Her Capricorn Venus falls into her 12H. Yeah, she's what you'd call a late bloomer in love, but she is one of the most rational people I know about these kinds of things. I like to talk to her about the future and of course, boys! Duh! She may have a Venus-Saturn conj in Capricorn but I can still talk to her about love. I think she helps put me into perspective.

I have another good friend with a Venus-Saturn conjunction in Capricorn. All three of us are friends.

I myself have the Venus-Saturn sextile, which I talked about in my previous post as being the rational and stable side to my feelings on love. However, I also have a Venus-Neptune aspect. Out of my Venus-Pluto, Venus-Saturn and Venus-Neptune aspects, the Neptune-Venus one has the tightest orb. Which means it is felt the most intensely out of three with Venus-Saturn and Venus-Pluto following in that order of orb value.

I will say that I have been prone to illusions when it comes to love. It's not THAT bad. The worst that has happened is that I thought I was going to date a guy, but he wasn't what I wanted and I got over it. Period. There are people who are worse than me, dating serial killers, child rapists, or even want to fuck children! I'm not THAT messed up, but having Neptune aspecting your Venus kind of sucks sometimes.

Lately I have a love interest. And of course little me gets overly excited about the prospects of a brand new relationship. This is nothing new. With the previous guy I liked, I got excited too... and nothing happened. But I believe the previous guy was wishy washy and had issues with wanting to be with a bunch of women for ego reasons. Naturally, I got over him. But it took a while...

This new guy shows all the nonverbals of liking me. And being a Venus-Saturn sextile I don't take risks with my heart. I really don't. I asked him to chill with me and go out to eat, but I felt comfortable asking him. I don't take risks unless I know for sure he likes me. And I do want to get to know this guy more to see if he's really good enough for me.

The problem here is my overly excitable Venus-Neptune. I'm dreaming of all these possibilities, but my friend with the Venus-Saturn conjunction helps put things into perspective for me. She doesn't want me to get disappointed, but sometimes I feel it is in my nature to be excited abotu things like this. And it is very exciting indeed. No doubt about that.

My friend told me to take things slow. Do not rush things. You see, I have taken things slow. Sometimes too slow. I don't want to take things too slow, but not too fast either. With this new, I'm being direct, honest, and sensitive. I think those are three traits that will help me win the guy.

Sometimes when you get overly excitable you really need to put things into perspective. It's not really all bad, but it isn't all rainbows and unicorns either. I think I get a reality check. The relationship is very very possible, but I can't ever be 100% sure. You can only hope ( Venus-Neptune ) for the best, but be cautious ( Venus-Saturn ). Do not be overly cautious, though.

Sometimes I do want to take risks with my heart, which is really hard for someone who has a Venus-Saturn aspect. The aspects are stronger in my friends than me, though, since they have the conjunction in Capricorn. My friends typically like very mature men who are a few years their senior. They like their men to be established, practical and career-driven.

I think sometimes I do want to base some choices on fun and emotions, and I want to tell my friends I want to do that. However, I still have the caution sign right next to me. I can't just take risks either.

Self astrology: Venus/Mars and being "lovestruck"

I’m finished with the series I had planned at the beginning of my blog, so I am pleased with myself. I have been for a long time wanting to blog about myself and how I relate myself to astrology. A lot of astrology bloggers to this; I see this in a way as helping people who have a similar aspect as myself. We’re all very similar but different.

My title for today is “lovestruck” because I think that is something recent that has been happening to me. I mean, we’ve all been “lovestruck” before? What is the definition of being “lovestruck?”

From the Urban Dictionary, here is what it means to be lovestruck:

Like struck with a lightening bolt. The second that you see and meet that person you are instantly in love. Head over heels, can’t stop thinking about that person, want to be with that person, hold them hug them, & and be held and hugged and loved by them in return
Thank you person who wrote that from Urban Dictionary! You GET what I’m feeling right now!

To sum that all up, I’m feeling that way over a guy right now. He’s not just any old guy; just my type. Artistic, creative, tall and handsome ( but in a quirky way ). I love his smile and he makes me laugh. No guy has ever made me laugh before quite like him.

Sometimes I think in my head, “I am in love!” But then another more cynical voice comes into my mind, “You’re not in love, you fool. You just want to fuck him.”

Here is where the astrology comes in: I’ve got a Venus-Pluto aspect; both conjunct and chilling in my 8th house. Now I’ve also got a Venus-Saturn sextile with Saturn chillin like a villain in the 10H. My Venus in Scorpio chills in the 8th house along with Pluto. Now with Mars, I have THAT in Aries/1st house and it’s sextile Jupiter; square Neptune, Saturn and Uranus. My Venus and Mars are quincunx, which basically means my sexual style and my love style are kinda in conflict.

I think I’m instantly lovestruck and full of lust ( I will willingly admit that ) because of my Venus-Pluto aspect, not to mention my Venus Scorpio and all that falling into the 8H, which is notorious about sex. When I like a guy, I know so immediately. I am instantly attracted. Or I am instantly repelled. Not any guy will do; he must be up to my standards of hotness and have a personality I like to top it all of. ( Now I’m not going to like a guy anymore if I don’t like his personality, even if he’s cute. Happened before! )

Now there is a trend with men I like. I’m not usually interested in the sporty, jock type guys. Nor am I attracted to overly ambitious, rich men. I’m also not attracted to the “bad boys.” ( Those annoy me. ) However, I’m typically interested in artsy, almost poetic guys. Neptune guys almost. But I also like guys who have the smarts. Smart, artistic, creative, poetic, musical, etc. They are in contrast of my left brained style. I’m turned on by artistic, right brained men.

“I want his ass.” Thoughts I frequently have… my sexual feelings, I do attribute, to my Venus-Pluto and even my Venus-Neptune aspect. My Mars is also in Aries, which I think doesn’t help too much either. I have sexual feelings, feelings that I repress ( Mars square Saturn and Neptune ) but you want it soo so badly. I think I visualize and dream about sex a lot, but never have it actually.

However, there is always that cynical little voice that tells me to slow down. “Slow down, girl. You’re going to freak him the fuck out! Even if he does have ambitions to get laid with you, you don’t want to get hurt. You’re logical and level headed. Don’t lose that shit for one guy!” ( Venus/8H sextile Saturn/10H; Mars/1H square Saturn/10H )

But there is another voice in my head, “Do it! What do you have to lose? You’re craving passion and closeness! Go get it!” ( Venus-Pluto, Venus-Saturn, Mars in Aries, Venus in Scorpio )

Hey, I know it does not sound good about the “voices.” it’s myself telling me this. My mind tells me another thing and my vagina tells me another. What can I say?

I think sometimes Venus-Pluto can be a curse, especially if you have the conjunction. You feel as though you get obsessed. And this obsession is crazy. I always want to be cool-headed and almost icy, but there’s that passion that wants to be let out.

I grew up to be afraid of sex and being sexy. My grandmother told me girls are meant to be “pure” until marriage. I do not personally hold that value, although I do believe both men and women should value their bodies and not fuck with everyone they see. Self-respect.

However, I tell myself not to be afraid of my sexuality. You only hope that your love interest has the same feelings.

This guy and I… we do talk about some offbeat sexual topics though. I wore a semi low cut shirt ( not horrible, but I only have 36B boobs. They’re not huge, but big enough ) and that day he could not look me in the eye. It’s either because of my breasts and he didn’t want to seem creepy, or he was nervous. No lying, because we weren’t talking about anything crazy that day. Just school and shit like that.

Saturn aspects

Saturn is always feared among people, rightfully and wrongfully. It is what keeps us back, restricts us and limits us. Most of the time, though, this manifests internally inside of us. Sometimes we don't get what we want because of our own insecurities, and that is Saturn right there.

However sometimes Saturn does represent forces that you can not always control, too, like your mom being cold and icy, or your dad leaving you when you're little, or being born into poverty. Those things you can not control.

Saturn is also reality. It also represents discipline and what we consider important.

Sun-Saturn, Saturn-Moon, Saturn-Venus, Saturn-Mercury, Saturn-Jupiter, Saturn-Mars.... please see other articles.

Saturn-Uranus aspects: Uranus is change and liberal ideas. Saturn resists change and has more traditional ideas. So can you imagine combining the two? Any of the aspects, whether soft or harsh, indicate someone who can combine the old with the new; all the aspects show someone who can put practical foundations on the new and bizarre. Change must be practical and can be done. They are idealists but not bleeding heart idealists. They are humanitarian, but know what they can realistically do.

These people may be serious about technology or see the importance of technology. Some of these people with these aspects might see the importance of change and progression. Some people with these aspects might see the importance of astrology and practice astrology with a practical approach.

With these aspects there is a healthy dosage of idealism and realism. There is a healthy dose of change and resistance. There is a healthy dose of practicality and intuition.

Depending on the specific aspect you have, the conjunction is the most intense and these "energies" flow smoothly and naturally. The opposition indicates someone who can swing back and forth between both and needs moderation. The square and quincunx indicates a challenge or conflict between the two.

Saturn-Neptune aspects: If you're an artist or a writer or anyone doing anything in the arts, then you want a Saturn-Neptune aspect. Saturn adds structure and practicality to your artsy, idealist, impractical Neptune. It can bring structure and importance to your art work, writing, poetry, and music. If you do any of that, you're serious about it. It is something you highly value.

The arts are not always hailed the best places to get a job and rightfully so. But if you're good enough and talented enough in the arts, you can make a lot of money. Your dreams can come true. But there must be some sort of plan and structure ( Saturn ).

Fantasies and ideals can come true, but with a catch! You must work hard! You won't get that gig at the festival just for kicks and giggles. The town and community must first recognize your band and you must have some sort of talent. That comes with practice and diligence.

This does not generally denote fame, but it can.

Depending the aspects involved with show how the aspects flow. Conjunction, trines and sextiles are harminous and energies flow smoothly and naturally. Oppositions show you bounce back and forth and need a balance. Squares and quincunx show a challenge or conflict.

Saturn-Pluto aspects: Sounds scary, right? Yes, this can indicate someone who is interested in darkness, or is profound. They could have an interest in death and rebirth. Sometimes people with these aspects can be tortured, depressed, or overly intense.

But also there is seriousness to transform their lives. They can transform anything bad or anything limiting into their lives for good. These are maybe the people born into poverty, but have the determination to get out of it. These are the people who you wonder why they never cracked because so much bad happened to them. They are, indeed, resilient, or can be resilient.

Another way this can manifest is someone who does not like others ideas. They like to push their ideas and world view onto other people. ( True with the harsher aspects ). Can indicate narrow mindedness or a world view that is ruled by domination.

"Great power comes with great responsibility." A good motto for these Saturn-Pluto aspects.
